Who we are
About Agysimbian Shadows
Agysimbian Shadows was born from the hands of a carver and the heart of a displaced heritage.
My name is Daniel Nicholas Myburgh, and this craft began not just as art — but as a way to honour the place I came from and everything that was taken from it. I’m a descendant of Rhodesia, a land once called home, now lost to history and turmoil. Like many families, ours had to leave behind not just a country, but a culture, a rhythm, and a way of life. What couldn’t be taken, though, was the spirit — and that’s what lives on in every lamp I carve.
Each piece is handcrafted from PVC pipe and shaped into glowing silhouettes — scenes that carry the echoes of African wilderness, ancestral patterns, and untold stories. I draw inspiration from the land that raised my bloodline: the acacia trees, the great beasts, the red earth, and the deep shadows cast by a setting sun over the savannah.
These aren’t just lights — they’re reminders of what still burns, even after displacement.
They’re memorials in light — to resilience, beauty, and memory.
You’ll find three paths through my work:
🔹 Ready-Made Designs – carved and ready to send, inspired by wildlife, nature, and ancestral strength
🔹 Personalised Lamps – add a name, message, or moment to a design
🔹 Custom Designs – I’ll bring your own vision to life in full silhouette
What I do now is more than carving lamps — it’s reclaiming space for something sacred.
So when you light an Agysimbian Shadows lamp, you’re not just switching on a bulb —
you’re bringing a legacy into the room.
Handmade. Heritage-lit.
Welcome to Agysimbian Shadows.
